Overcoming
Innovation Barriers in SMEs
INNOBA-SME
A Thematic Network

Summary

The objective of this thematic network is to help SMEs overcome innovation barriers. With the new challenges the global knowledge-driven economy poses to SMEs it is vital to create the right conditions for inducing innovation in these enterprises, which account for the vast majority of companies in Europe, but find it difficult to allocate time and resources for innovation activities.

INNOBA-SME gathers together representatives from the policy-making and policy implementing sides of the regional innovation support systems.

The specific objectives are: A) To exchange information and good (and bad) practice experience to facilitate the transfer of best practice to other regions, taking regional and sector differences into account. B) Develop strategic framework for responsive innovation systems and evaluation model for adaptive support schemes. The means to achieve these objectives are a combination of study trips, SWOT analyses, desk studies, and targeted dissemination strategy.
